Demolition makes way for parking lot
MOUNT VERNON -- A demolition crew took down the property at 936 W. High St., next door to Mount Vernon Electric Sales, and one neighbor is not happy about it.

Court rules on Internet defamation case
MOUNT VERNON -- A recent court ruling forced a Virginia man to an Ohio courtroom to defend himself in a lawsuit over comments he posted on the Internet. If upheld by the Ohio Supreme Court, the Ohio 5th District court ruling means that anyone can be sued in Knox County for defamation, no matter where the offending party lives in America.

Rolls-Royce helps inspire green energy bill
MOUNT VERNON -- In a conference call Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, announced his new bill to promote green energy research and manufacturing. Brown said the bill's incentives for the development of new technologies could help turn Ohio into the silicon valley of renewable energy.

Homemade ice cream shop to open
MOUNT VERNON -- A new ice cream shop about a mile south of the city will give people a place to sit outside, admire a nice view of the surrounding countryside and enjoy homemade ice cream.

Property owner plans to rebuild
MOUNT VERNON -- The owner of the former Rivers Edge Hunting and Fishing property plans to rebuild, but the former business owner has no plans to reopen the hunting and fishing store, which was destroyed in fire in late January.

Jacket softballers break out bats in win
MOUNT VERNON -- When she found her team down 2-0 after just half an inning on Wednesday, Mount Vernon assistant softball coach Lynn Apple wasn't sure what to think. After eight straight batters reached base in the bottom of the inning, she was really left scratching her head.

Jackets win in dramatic fashion
MOUNT VERNON -- A bases-loaded walk to right fielder Luke Wilson in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Mount Vernon High School baseball team a 5-4 win over visiting Dublin Jerome in Ohio Capital Conference Cardinal Division baseball action on Wednesday. Yellow Jacket shortstop Aaron Beeman scored from third on the play.
