FREDERICKTOWN -- The Fredericktown Village Council began its meeting Monday by discussing a possible long-term lease of space by the planning committee of the future Fredericktown Community Center.

MOUNT VERNON -- On Monday morning, the Knox County Board of Commissioners had their weekly meeting with Roger Shooter, director of Jobs and Family Services.

MOUNT VERNON -- Plans are under way for another chance for Knox County families to enjoy a day of free family fun at Foundation Park.

LEWIS CENTER -- Another Ohio Capital Conference win on the road brought the Mount Vernon High School baseball team one win closer to the .500 mark on Monday night. The Yellow Jackets defeated Olentangy, 8-5.

LEWIS CENTER -- The Mount Vernon High School softball team experienced the snowball effect on Monday afternoon. Playing at Olentangy High School, the action started out slow then gradually picked up steam and ended with an exclamation point on the final play. The Yellow Jackets defeated Olentangy, 10-4, in the Ohio Capital Conference Cardinal Division matchup.

Two new dog runs in Mount Vernon and Gambier offer dog owners a chance to allow their dogs to run free off the leash, stretch their legs and socialize and play with other dogs. The Wolf Run area extends into the woods and provides a varied environment for dogs and owners. The Gambier run is located behind the Gambier Community Center on Meadow Lane near the softball fields and offers ample room to both dog and master.

MOUNT VERNON -- Many Mount Vernon Middle School students have been vocal in their support of science teacher John Freshwater in his claims to a First Amendment right to display a Bible on his desk. But are those students willing to grant someone else equal rights to remain neutral or to disagree?

CENTERBURG -- The controversy surrounding statements made by Centerburg Mayor George Shaw continues to be an issue at Village Council meetings.

GAMBIER -- On Monday, Gambier Village Council voted to rezone a neighborhood near the village center from residential to a classification that allows for certain kinds of commercial uses.

MOUNT VERNON -- One local credit union recently began asking members to refrain from wearing hats, hoods or sunglasses while they are inside any of its branch buildings. The new policy was put in place to prevent potential bank robbers from concealing their identity, thus keeping members -- and the town -- safer.

MOUNT VERNON -- A piece of Knox County history was permanently memorialized by the state of Ohio last week.
