FREDERICKTOWN -- The Fredericktown Village Council began its meeting Monday by discussing a possible long-term lease of space by the planning committee of the future Fredericktown Community Center.

LEWIS CENTER -- The Mount Vernon High School softball team experienced the snowball effect on Monday afternoon. Playing at Olentangy High School, the action started out slow then gradually picked up steam and ended with an exclamation point on the final play. The Yellow Jackets defeated Olentangy, 10-4, in the Ohio Capital Conference Cardinal Division matchup.

Two new dog runs in Mount Vernon and Gambier offer dog owners a chance to allow their dogs to run free off the leash, stretch their legs and socialize and play with other dogs. The Wolf Run area extends into the woods and provides a varied environment for dogs and owners. The Gambier run is located behind the Gambier Community Center on Meadow Lane near the softball fields and offers ample room to both dog and master.

New policy hopes to improve safety
MOUNT VERNON -- One local credit union recently began asking members to refrain from wearing hats, hoods or sunglasses while they are inside any of its branch buildings. The new policy was put in place to prevent potential bank robbers from concealing their identity, thus keeping members -- and the town -- safer.
