Free fishing, canoeing and fun at Foundation Park

MOUNT VERNON — Plans are under way for another chance for Knox County families to enjoy a day of free family fun at Foundation Park.

The Rotary-Kiwanis Family Regatta brings families together for a special day of events, while raising sponsorship funds to help develop Mount Vernon’s Foundation Park. Last year’s event brought more than 650 family members to the park for exciting outdoor activities.

This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, June 7, from noon to 4 p.m. Activities include special bicentennial-related events, a youth fishing contest, bait casting competitions, trapping demonstrations, canoeing and more.

Combining forces to create the event, along with the Mount Vernon Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon, are the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife and Division of Watercraft, the Knox County Fish and Game Association, Knox County Park District, Muskingum Valley Council of Boy Scouts of America, Pheasants Forever and the City of Mount Vernon Parks and Recreation Department.

Tax-deductible contributions to help develop Foundation Park may be directed to The Rotary/Kiwanis Family Regatta Foundation Park Fund, c/o Cindy Higgs, First-Knox National Bank, P.O. Box 1270, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. Donors will be recognized as event sponsors and supporters.

Last year’s event raised $7,000 for a new shelter house, which was constructed in the park earlier this year.
