Renovated Kid’s Corner opens

MOUNT VERNON — Representatives from Rolls-Royce Energy were on hand to commemorate the opening of the newly renovated Kid’s Corner room at the Mount Vernon YMCA on Friday during a brief ceremony.

Jerad Freed, a process engineer at Rolls-Royce, spoke briefly on how the project came about. Lisa Berry of the YMCA told Rolls-Royce about the Kid’s Corner, and how up to 10,000 children a year make use of it. He said the renovation of the room fit nicely with what Rolls-Royce believes about giving back to the community.

Berry thanked the employees of Rolls-Royce who donated their time and money in order to complete the project, and said that now the room is furnished with all new toys, furniture and rugs. She also said the room is safer for children because of a new gate.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” said Berry.

Aaron Boggs, treasurer of the Mount Vernon YMCA, said he was thrilled about the completion of the renovation of the Kid’s Corner room. He said Rolls-Royce had been a solid contributor to the YMCA in the past, and this project was the latest product of those contributions.

The energy business president of Rolls-Royce, Tom Curley, was also on hand at the ceremony, and spoke about the relationship between the company and the Mount Vernon YMCA. He said that Rolls-Royce would not have an operation without the local community, and that this was a way of supporting the community. Curley also presented Berry with a plaque commemorating the renovation of the Kid’s Corner room.
