Elementary attempting to beat the heat
MOUNT VERNON -- Working hard to beat the heat, and glad the temperature has stayed below sweltering thus far, maintenance and custodial personnel in the Mount Vernon City school system are finishing the installation of room air conditioners at Pleasant Street Elementary.

Clark heading to Country Club; YMCA to look for new director
MOUNT VERNON -- "I have a personality that needs change every so often,"said Nick Clark, who is leaving his position as executive director at the Mount Vernon YMCA to work at the Mount Vernon Country Club.

Medical marijuana bill proposed in Ohio
COLUMBUS -- Ohio Sen. Tom Roberts, D-Dayton, unveiled details of the Ohio Medical Compassion Act on Tuesday, which if adopted, "would allow patients to use medicinal cannabis through a regulated system of quality health care."If enacted, Ohio would join 12 other states that have currently de-criminalized the use of medicinal marijuana.

McQuigg receives superior at state
MOUNT VERNON -- Jessica McQuigg, a junior at Mount Vernon High School and one of the local students competing in the 60th annual State Science Day, received a superior rating for her project and won several special honors for her performance at the state event: a $10,000 renewable scholarship to The College of Wooster, $1,000 renewable from the University of Findlay, and $500 from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health and OSU Health Systems.

DUBLIN -- After five events scored, the Mount Vernon High School boys track team is winning the Division I Central District 2 track meet with a total of 27 points.

PICKERINGTON -- When a dominating pitcher combines with an offense that is on fire, it usually equates to an excellent chance at victory. Unfortunately for the Johnstown High School softball team, it was on the wrong side of that equation Tuesday night.
