Missing boy found

MOUNT VERNON — Kyle Moran, a 12-year-old boy from the Martinsburg area, went missing on Wednesday evening, but was found on Thursday, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

“Apparently he had packed some clothing in a duffle bag and left last evening,” said Lt. Mark Rutherford. “[He] left his book bag and cell phone at [his] residence.”

Rutherford also said that at the time Moran was reported missing, his family was not aware he had packed any clothes to take with him.

According to Rutherford, Moran was sighted on U.S. 62, between Martinsburg and Utica, on Wednesday evening, and was later spotted in Utica between 5 and 6 p.m. on the same night.

On Thursday afternoon, reports from the sheriff’s office confirmed that Moran had been found in Utica. Sheriff David Barber said Moran had been seen by a relative in Utica, and the relative picked him up and took him to the Utica Police Department.

According to Barber, Moran said he spent the previous night in the woods, but was fine. Barber also said Moran would stay with his grandmother, at least for Thursday evening. Children Services has been notified of the situation.

“He left on his own and was pretty much coming back on his own,” said Barber.
