MOUNT VERNON — On Friday, Judge Otho Eyster in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas sentenced four men and one woman for various felony crimes and violations of community control supervision, according to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher.
Shane Lee Green, 32, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to life in prison for rape, a felony of the first degree, and five years in prison for gross sexual imposition, a felony of the third degree. The prison terms will be served consecutively which means Green will not be eligible for parole for 20 years, according to Thatcher. Classified as a Tier III sex offender, Green will be required to register his address with authorities for life, if he is released from prison. Thatcher said Green was convicted of the charges on May 7, after a two-day jury trial. The testimony at trial revealed that on separate occasions between May 1 and July 7, 2007, Green sexually molested an 8-year-old girl in the bedroom of his Mount Vernon apartment. Capt. Richard Brenneman, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, and Michell Reich, Knox County Children Services, investigated the case.
Nathan Alan Temple, 22, Mount Vernon, was convicted of rape and gross sexual imposition in 2003, and he last registered his address with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 17, 2007. Temple was convicted of failing to notify the KCSO when he moved from his registered address, on Jan. 3, 2008. Eyster sentenced Temple to a three-year prison term. Detective Roger Brown, KCSO, investigated the case.
Gerald A. Crump, 27, Columbus, was sentenced to a 17-month prison term for possessing a stolen 2001 Kawasaki motorcycle, on Nov. 30, 2007. Thatcher said an anonymous tip and investigation by Crump’s Municipal Court Probation Officer Rene Joris led to the execution of a search warrant by Detective Sgt. Gary Rohler, KCSO, and Detective Craig Feeney, Mount Vernon Police Department. The detectives found the motorcycle hidden in a storage building in Fredericktown, where Crump was living at the time.
On May 30, 2007, Heather A. Brandenburg, 22, Mount Vernon, was convicted of possessing cocaine and sentenced to a three-year term of community control supervision. Brandenburg’s 11-month prison sentence was suspended on the condition that she completes a drug and alcohol treatment program while on supervision. One year later, Brandenburg admitted that she failed to complete the drug and alcohol treatment program, and she admitted to being convicted of disorderly conduct last month in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court. Eyster imposed Brandenburg’s 11-month prison term for these violations. Patrolman Beth Marti, MVPD, investigated the cocaine possession case.
On Nov. 14, 2007, David C. Tier, 18, Utica, was convicted of multiple counts of vandalism and one count of assault for using a BB gun to shoot out the windows and otherwise damage over 40 vehicles on March 1 and 2, 2007, and for shooting a 19-year-old man in the parking lot of a store in Mount Vernon. Tier was sentenced to community control supervision, and his 17-month prison sentence was suspended on the condition that he complies with the terms of his supervision for three years. Friday, Tier admitted to being convicted of theft in the Newark Municipal Court earlier this month, a violation of the terms of his supervision. Eyster continued Tier’s community control supervision with the additional condition that he must successfully complete a six-month term at the Licking Muskingum Community Correctional Center. Detective Cpl. Matt Dailey, MVPD, investigated the original case.
