MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Board of Health had a brief meeting Wednesday evening, and heard two reports concerning solid waste nuisances in the county, among other items.
Concerning a solid waste nuisance at 12815 Gilchrist Road in Monroe Township, the board heard from Assistant Knox County Prosecutor Jennifer Springer, who said legal documentation was still being edited and submitted. Judge Otho Eyster will review all of the documentation when it is completed before making his ruling.
Director of Environmental Services for the health department, Brian Benick, reported on a solid waste nuisance at 11337 Armentrout Road in Berlin Township. Benick said the owner of the property, David Proper, had signed for one certified letter which informed him of his right to be at the health board meeting.
Benick said he had talked to Proper and that Proper acknowledged that the old tires and junk vehicles on his property were solid waste nuisances. Benick also said Proper had contacted him Wednesday and informed him that one vehicle and some tires had been removed from the property. The board unanimously approved a 21-day order for Proper to remove the solid waste from the property.
Health department finance office director Linette Vance reported that income and expenses are on target for the year so far.
Other items on the meeting agenda included:
•The board unanimously approved a motion allowing a change in health department policy so employees may donate accrued sick leave time to employees in need of extra sick time due to catastrophic illness or injury.
•The board unanimously approved a contract with the Knox County Juvenile Court to provide physical examinations. The contract will last from June 1 until June 30, 2009.

•The board unanimously approved a contract with the Ohio Department of Health in order to receive a $1,000 grant for local lead awareness activities.
•The board unanimously approved a contract with the Ohio State University Research Foundation in order to receive a $1,000 grant for suicide prevention.
