Police, deputies involved in early-morning chase
MOUNT VERNON -- Mount Vernon Police Officers pursued a stolen vehicle through the city this morning at speeds occasionally reaching over 80 mph.

Centerburg approves development project
CENTERBURG -- With the controversy stemming from Centerburg Mayor George Shaw seeming to be behind it, the Centerburg Village Council approved the rezoning of the proposed Creekside development project when it met Monday evening.

Highland High School holds commencement
SPARTA -- On Sunday at 2:30 p.m., Highland High School conferred diplomas on 113 members of the class of 2008. Recognition was given to the top five students in each course of study.

Commissioners discuss senior services
MOUNT VERNON -- The Knox County Board of Commissioners had three meetings on Monday, with topics ranging from Centerburg senior services to discussion of projects with the department of water and wastewater.

Danville set for festival
DANVILLE -- Danville Village Council approved the official lease of Memorial Park to the East Knox County Joint Fire District Association for use during annual Danville-Howard Turkey Festival, June 12-14.

Collier drafts bill to abolish state tax
COLUMBUS -- Ohio State House Rep. Thom Collier has co-sponsored a bill that would abolish the state's personal income tax by 2019. He and Republican Rep. John Adams, the other co-sponser of House Bill 534, unveiled the measure in April.

College's requests for variances go nowhere
GAMBIER -- After much discussion, Gambier Village Council took no action at its meeting Monday on legislation that would have allowed Kenyon College to put up two temporary trailers for office and classroom use.

Bake sale raises funds in Martinsburg
MARTINSBURG -- Meeting on Monday evening, Martinsburg Village Council heard that the skateboard park fund totals $1,105.53. Member Matilda Neighbarger reported that a recent bake sale and 50-50 drawing fundraiser had raised $257.65.

From Myanmar to Mount Vernon, cyclone hits home
MOUNT VERNON -- The cyclone that struck Myanmar early last month really hit home for one Mount Vernon resident. Htut "Tut"Zar, a waiter at The Alcove Restaurant in downtown Mount Vernon, watched as his country was ravaged by fierce winds and heavy rain and a cyclone that carved its path, killing over 100,000 people.

Blue Devils'Mills overcomes obstacles to make state meet
DANVILLE -- Danville High School junior Kendra Mills is all about meeting her goals. Going into the track and field season this year, the long jumper was determined to jump a specific distance, and let the chips fall where they may. Not only has Mills achieved her record, she's also qualified for the state meet.
