Rolls Royce to invest $22 million in local plant
MOUNT VERNON -- Rolls-Royce announced Thursday that it will invest about $22 million in its in the Mount Vernon site, a move that should create around 100 jobs.

Chandler indicted by grand jury
MOUNT VERNON -- Elmer M. Chandler was indicted for aggravated murder on Monday by a Knox County grand jury. Chandler is accused of causing the death of his 73-year-old wife, Joann J. Chandler. The 74-year-old Mount Vernon man was also charged with one count of murder and one count of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony.

7 convicted of selling alcohol to minors
MOUNT VERNON -- Four men and three women were convicted on Friday of selling alcohol to minors. All seven people pleaded guilty to the charges in Mount Vernon Municipal Court.

Korean vet receives diploma
CENTERBURG -- Charles "Sonny"Fair officially graduated from Centerburg High School on Saturday -- 56 years late. Fair should have graduated from high school in 1952, but was awarded his diploma during commencement exercises at Centerburg High School this weekend alongside his oldest granddaughter, Hannah Sells.

Invasive plants are unwelcome immigrants
MOUNT VERNON -- Although this nation is one comprised of immigrants, in terms of plant life, not all immigrants are welcome. Garlic mustard, a plant brought to this continent from Europe, is now reaching the point where it is a threat to the natural biodiversity of the region, according to Kim Marshall, director of the Knox County Park District.

MV sophomores excel in French
MOUNT VERNON -- Ninety-five thousand students around the country participated in the National French Test, sponsored by The American Association of Teachers of French, in March. Of those, 23,311 competed in the Level 1 category.

Blue Devils ready for battle
DANVILLE -- As the Danville High School softball team prepares for its first state tournament appearance, coach Mike Beheler is slowly learning more and more about the team's opponent in the Division IV State Semifinal -- the Convoy Crestview Knights. What he is learning is nearly unbelievable -- a David vs. Goliath of sorts.

Danville players confident, focused
DANVILLE -- The Danville Blue Devils head to the state softball tournament with a full head of steam. They have risen to the challenge and have nearly made it to their goal, but there are still three other teams competing for the ultimate prize.

Scots'Anderson, Sparks ready to shine
MOUNT VERNON -- A pair of sprinters will be wearing the bright blue of Highland High School at this weekend's Ohio High School Athletic Association State Track and Field Championship. Senior Caitlin Sparks will be running the 400-meter dash for the Scots, while sophomore Kristen Anderson will be competing in the high jump, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash.
