MOUNT VERNON -- 31 women from the United States, Australia, and Canada have traveled across the country along the Underground Railroad route. During their journey they stopped in Mount Vernon on Friday after riding 75 miles from Dublin, Ohio. The women will end their 2,000 miles tour in Niagara Falls, Canada.

MOUNT VERNON -- Promptly at 5 a.m., on a dark, rainy morning, the Rescue Waggin'-- a large customized truck -- rolled into a parking lot on Columbus Road, at the former animal shelter building. Volunteer dog rescuers Peggy Kimple and Marla McCutchen were waiting.

MOUNT VERNON -- The 5th District Court of Appeals upheld a local ruling this week and thus denied Mount Vernon Police Sgt. Mark Perkins in his suit to claim the position of Chief of Police.

MOUNT VERNON -- Mayor Richard Mavis is considering changing the game plan for a crossover road that will connect Coshocton Avenue to Yauger Road. He says the project is going to happen eventually, it's only a matter of which alternative they choose.

One could be forgiven for thinking that it was much later in the season, thanks to temperatures that edged into the 90s, announcing summer by turning the sidewalks hot enough to fry an egg.

DANVILLE -- On the eve of the Division IV State Softball final, the Danville High School softball team did not spend a lot of time learning about their opponent, the Triad Cardinals. Instead, the Blue Devils did what they always do -- focus on themselves.

COLUMBUS -- The Division II and Division III State Field events took place on Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on The Ohio State University campus. Several area athletes represented the are at the competition for the best of the best in Ohio track.
