MOUNT VERNON -- "9-1-1, what is your emergency?"The voice on the line offers calmness in distress, and help in the worst of circumstances. The dispatcher who answers the phone when an emergency call is made will have only seconds to determine what kind of help is needed, and how to get that help to the caller the fastest.

The toughest part is the wait
FREDERICKTOWN -- No one really likes to wait, but life is full of waiting. Twelve-year-old Avery Silliman of Fredericktown is waiting for a kidney, and all of the life changes and good health that kidney will hopefully bring.

Closing of Clark Co. facility to help MVDC
MOUNT VERNON -- Mount Vernon Developmental Center supervisor Ernie Fischer met with the Knox County Commissioners on Monday to advise them of a new development in the facility's immediate future.

Legislation introduced to ban pit bulls in Ohio
COLUMBUS -- An Ohio representative has introduced legislation that, if passed, would ban the ownership of pit bull dogs in the state of Ohio.

Commissioners view possible dike erosion
MOUNT LIBERTY -- On Monday afternoon, the Knox County Commissioners visited the property of Lyman Gates. Gates said he asked for a site visit due some erosion and degradation of a portion of the Dry Creek dike located on his property, a dike which held back the flood waters of 1972 and 1989.

Board of education honors retirees
MOUNT VERNON -- When the Mount Vernon City Schools Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, board members and the audience observed a moment of silence in memory of parent Karen Vonck, student Justin Richert and treasurer Nancy Sinclair, all of whom recently passed away.

UTICA -- Ohio State University President Gordon Gee tasted a frozen treat right off the production line during his trip to Ye Olde Mill on Monday.

Unsung heroes spark Blue Devils'title run
DANVILLE -- In every sport and on every team there are unsung heroes. For the state champion Danville Blue Devil softball team there are six of them, and they make up one of the strongest and supportive benches a team can have. Ask any player on the team and they will tell you that without the support of their bench, they would not have been able to make school history.
