John Chapman, commonly known as Johnny Appleseed, is just one of the important figures that helped shape the history of Knox County. Inspired by his faith, he journeyed the Ohio territory and the American frontier planting apple trees to nourish the pioneers during their travels.

MOUNT VERNON -- High-ranking representatives from Cooper Industries made an appearance at the Knox County Historical Society Museum on Wednesday to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the company's founding in Mount Vernon. Kirk Hachigian, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Cooper Industries, also presented a donation to the historical society.

FREDERICKTOWN -- The Fredericktown Farmers Market is slowly building up for the season as produce and products become available. Wednesday afternoon, four vendors gathered to sell items. As the season develops, the number of vendors hopefully will match or exceed last year's peak of 16 vendors.

DANVILLE -- The Danville softball team held its awards banquet and celebration Wednesday night, a celebration that has no intention of ending.

About two months ago I made arrangements to ride with GOBA from Mount Vernon to Coshocton. This segment of the trip was 48 miles. It's been a long time since I've ridden any significant miles, so I was a little on edge about completing the length.
