DANVILLE -- Beginning in January 2009, the presence of a police officer in Danville schools won't mean anything is wrong. Just the opposite, in fact.

Chicken farm easing into operation
MOUNT VERNON -- The proposed chicken farm near the intersection of Wooster Road and Paige Road northeast of Mount Vernon has completed construction and begun easing into operation, according to Case Farms. The operation, run by farmer James McDonald, will house approximately 75,000 broiler chickens in two barns.

Charges dismissed against Mount Vernon man
MOUNT VERNON -- On Tuesday, Judge Otho Eyster dismissed the charges against a Mount Vernon man accused of domestic violence against his 14-year-old daughter. In what Eyster called a "spoiled teenage girl crying wolf,"Eyster dismissed the charges against Larry F. Taylor due to lack of evidence immediately after the prosecution rested its case.

Federal funds help local vets
MOUNT VERNON -- The Knox County Veterans Services Office is prepared to serve the nearly 5,000 veterans of the county, according to director R. Trent Ansel.
