MOUNT VERNON — A sextet of local celebrity chefs has agreed to give of their free time and will share their favorite recipes at The Foundation for Knox Community Hospital’s 2008 International Dine & Donate for Digital Mammography.
A fundraiser will be held at The Alcove Restaurant each week for five weeks during July, August and September. Gastronomic treats galore will be offered as the cream of the Knox County’s local celebrity chefs compete against each other to throw their culinary weight behind the foundation’s “Keep Her in the Picture” campaign to purchase a Digital Mammography machine for The Center for Cancer Care at Knox Community Hospital.
Each chef will be responsible for sending invitations to friends and colleagues. The schedule for each dinner is:
•July 25 — Steve Mullendore, European cuisine.
•July 31 — Gordon Yance, Polish cuisine.
•Aug. 1 — Inge Krajenski and Carl Jones, German cuisine.
•Aug. 29 — Paul Taiganides-Greek cuisine.
•Sept. 5 — Charlie Brenneman, Southern cuisine.
Cancer of the breast is the most commonly diagnosed non-skin cancer in women. One out of every eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women.
To emphasize the importance of women’s health in society; the fact that women give life and support to our community; they are proud and they are strong; and that they are the hope for our future, The Foundation named this campaign “Keep Her in the Picture.”
