Summer programs at public library

The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County offers fun-filled activities for youth throughout the summer. "Catch the Reading Bug" is the name of this year's program that encourages the youth to enjoy reading all summer long. In addition to reading, games, crafts and special guests are all part of the summer fun.

July 4th rain dates

In the event of inclement weather, area Fourth of July festivities will take place on the following rain dates: Mount Vernon fireworks, First Friday events and Skateboard/BMX/Inline Skate Contest— Sunday. •Gambier and Fredericktown — Saturday. •Utica — None.

Satety must come first with caretakers

Students encouraged to exercise right to vote

MOUNT VERNON — Taxation without representation was one of the reasons American colonists fought for their independence from Great Britain way back in the 1700s. Now people are chosen to represent citizens through an electoral process.
