Fredericktown 4th is a family affair

FREDERICKTOWN — The Fourth of July in Fredericktown attracts families each summer, many of whom follow traditions for the celebration that have been built over many years. Brian Knight of Mount Vernon has been showing up at Fredericktown Community Park between 6 and 7 a.m. each year, long before the events at the park begin.

City purchases old Connell's building

MOUNT VERNON — The city is buying the old Connell’s furniture building on Sandusky Street and plans to tear it down in order to make future roadway improvements, according to Mayor Richard Mavis.

Utica residents celebrate Independence Day

UTICA — The village of Utica is celebrating Independence Day in style this weekend, with a free Fourth of July celebration that began Thursday evening at South End Park. The event is sponsored by the Licking Masonic Lodge, which, assisted by business and individual sponsors, is providing everything except food and drink for free.

Competition a draw for youths

MOUNT VERNON — A few sprinkles and an overcast sky during the holiday afternoon Friday did not stop events from proceeding.

Scott wins KnoxSquares competition

MOUNT VERNON — A small but enthusiastic audience showed up at Memorial Theater on Thursday evening to witness the final rounds of “KnoxSquares — A Tribute to Paul Lynde,” a form of Knox Bicentennial tic-tac-toe. Following questions by moderator Mark Jordan, contestant finalists Josh Morrison, John Fair, Jerry Scott and Bob Wise had to decide whether panelists in the squares were giving correct answers or bluffing.
