Fredericktown considers making alley one way

FREDERICKTOWN -- A petition signed by a group of concerned citizens was presented to the Fredericktown Village Council by village residents Donnie and Laurie McManaway, and J.R. Thorne. The petitioners asked council to consider making the alley that runs between Salem and Zent roads, and between Zent and Tuttle roads, a one-way alley.

Sewer extension to Rich Hill discussed

CENTERBURG -- A major topic of discussion on Monday evening at the Centerburg Village Council meeting was the proposed decentralized sewer project and how it might affect the hamlet of Rich Hill and the village of Centerburg.

Commissioners open bids

MOUNT VERNON -- On Monday morning, the Knox County Board of Commissioners opened bids for two projects and had a brief meeting with Roger Shooter, director of the Jobs and Family Services department.

Flaw found in EMA house numbers in Martinsburg

MARTINSBURG -- The Martinsburg Village Council, meeting Monday evening, heard from Mayor J.R. St. Clair that a flaw was found in the Knox County Emergency Management Agency house numbering system.

Freshwater hearing set for August 26

MOUNT VERNON -- After a special executive session to discuss the matter, the Mount Vernon school board on Monday passed a resolution to schedule a hearing regarding the contract termination of eighth-grade science teacher John Freshwater.

EPA investigating barrel found in river

FREDERICKTOWN -- A fisherman found a 15-gallon plastic barrel in the Kokosing River near the Fredericktown Community Park on Friday, and contacted the Knox County Sheriff's Office for help. The white drum appears to be about half filled with an unknown clear, sticky liquid, according to Fredericktown Fire Chief Scott Mast, who secured the barrel after being contacted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources on Sunday.

Center would help autistic children

MOUNT VERNON -- Monica Hunnicut tells the story of an autistic high school boy who was being teased by classmates. Because autistic children are often unable to develop socially appropriate behavior skills, the boy didn't react with caution but instead laughed along with the bullies. Angered by what appeared to them to be arrogance, they beat him nearly to death.

Buffalo Bill Wild West Show re-enactment set for Saturday

MOUNT VERNON -- The Knox County Horse Park and all the performers will put on a re-enactment of a Buffalo Bill Wild West Show to celebrate the Knox County bicentennial.
