MOUNT VERNON -- Like it or not, students in Ohio's public schools must pass standardized tests in reading, math, writing, science and social studies in order to receive a high school diploma.
BANGS -- It is a great place to play, and nearly 4-year-old Ty Joedward Adams clearly enjoys romping on the deck, swinging bridge and slide he and his granddad built together. His grandfather is Abe Adams, now 72, a longtime blacksmith who lives on the corner of U.S. 36 and Fairview Road, southwest of Mount Vernon.
MOUNT VERNON -- In a brief ceremony Friday, the sheriff's office building on the Knox County Fairgrounds was renamed in memory of Deputy Janet Hunter. Hunter died in 2004.
MOUNT VERNON -- Firefighters returned early Friday morning to the scene of a house fire on Pleasant Valley Road, south of Mount Vernon, to investigate the cause. The fire occurred late Thursday night, and destroyed the three bedroom, single-story home owned by Chris and Amanda Burdulis.
