Gambier man killed when van pins him

Monday, August 25, 2008

GAMBIER — A 40-year-old Gambier man died following an accident at this Grove Church Road home on Wednesday morning.

According to Knox County Sheriff David Barber, a 9-1-1 call was received at 10:53 a.m. on Wednesday reporting a man was pinned under a vehicle at 8910 Grove Church Road. Fire and EMS personnel from the Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District and College Township Fire Department, along with deputies, responded to the scene.

Barber said David L. Mullett was found pinned underneath a 2006 Chevrolet van at the residence. Sheriff’s detectives determined that Mullett had pulled the van onto a set of car ramps and had crawled under the vehicle to change the oil, at which time the van rolled off the ramps, pinning him underneath.

Mullett was transported to Knox Community Hospital by squad, where he later died.

Mullett was an auctioneer and realtor with Real Estate Showcase. He was married with eight children and a member of the Mount Zion House of Prayer in Utica.

Barber said there was no evidence of foul play and called Mullett’s death an unfortunate accident.
