MOUNT VERNON -- Calling them the finest young livestock exhibitors in the state, auctioneer Red Shaw's voice rang out in the crowded multipurpose building Thursday during the 2008 Knox County Junior Fair Sale of Champions.

Lambs bring in record bid

MOUNT VERNON -- Linsey Howell's Grand Champion Pen of Three Market Lambs drew a record bid of $9 per pound from Kenyon College AVI Foodsystems Inc. at the 2008 Knox County Fair Sale.

Prices higher in large animal sale

MOUNT VERNON -- Jess Gaddis wrestled her skittish Grand Champion Market Beef steer in the sale ring Thursday morning, while auctioneer Red Shaw coaxed bidders into honoring months of hard work.

Small animal appeal raises bids

MOUNT VERNON -- Anesha Tharp acknowledged that her Grand Champion Market Fryers had an advantage over all the other animals sold at the Knox County Fair Sale Day.

Harness racing caps off week

MOUNT VERNON -- The final day of any series of competitions is nearly always guaranteed to produce some very stellar performances. The Thursday edition of the 2008 Knox County Fair, which capped racing for the week, saw several top performances on the harness race track.

Harwell wins first event

MOUNT VERNON -- Fans packed the Knox County Fairgrounds for the very first running of the figure-8 school bus races on Thursday night. They were treated to one of the most action-packed events as 13 buses raced around the infield smashing into each other and barriers, fighting to be the first bus to cross the finish line.
