All-Stars set for big stage

MOUNT VERNON -- This morning at 11, the 15-year-old Mount Vernon Babe Ruth All-Stars departed for a stage the likes of which none of the players -- or Mount Vernon baseball -- has really seen until this year. The squad will represent Mount Vernon in the Ohio Valley Regional Tournament, taking place in Somerset, Ky., with hopes to advance to the Babe Ruth World Series.

The Mount Vernon 12-year-old All-Stars, shown here after winning the 12-year-old Little League state tournament on Saturday, begin play tonight in the Little League Great Lakes Regional, held in Indianapolis, Ind. The team will face Indiana's champion, Jeffersonville GRC Americans.

Cardington woman dies in accident

Bolivian executives visit MV

MOUNT VERNON -- Several Bolivian executives representing various banking and financial institutions visited CES Credit Union on Wednesday morning. The group stopped in Mount Vernon as part of a tour of financial institutions in the central Ohio region; the tour was organized by the World Council of Credit Unions.

Energy sells Players'production of 'Oklahoma!'

Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Oklahoma!"has a reputation for being the ultimate corn ball musical. And, indeed, when the curtain rose last night at the Memorial Theater on a woman sitting in the yard churning butter, it made me wonder just how long the evening would be.
