It was standing room only in the Mount Vernon High School auditorium as more than 350 people decended upon the school board meeting Monday evening. Many individuals were there to show their support for middle school science teacher John Freshwater, others to support the school board.

A group of engineers and advisors journeyed with Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis to look at an old bridge he is planning to move to Foundation Park. The 90-foot span is on an abandoned road south of Bladensburg in Jackson Township just off Jug Run Road.

Use of golf carts concerns Gambier council

Gambier Village Council had a relatively short meeting Monday night. Dan Werner, executive director of the Knox County Chapter of the American Red Cross, gave council members an overview of the organization’s responsibilities. Werner said he’s making the rounds of council meetings in order to educate the community about the Red Cross and the services it offers.

Danville to place police levy on ballot

The Danville Village Council voted at its meeting Monday to place a levy on the November ballot. Council gave the third and final reading to a resolution placing an additional one-half percent income tax on village residents for specific use by the police department.
