Villages enforce curfews

There is no countywide curfew in effect for young people under the age of 18, according to Knox County Sheriff David Barber. However, several villages in the county and the city of Mount Vernon enforce year-round curfews for school-aged youth.

Fredericktown to place school levy on ballot

Following a reception to welcome new teachers to the district, on Tuesday the Fredericktown Board of Education passed resolutions to place a replacement tax levy on the November ballot. The continuing levy will replace a five-year emergency levy, which generates $625,000 a year. The funds are used for general operating expenses.

Teach children the dangers of playing with fire

Never are fires more tragic than when they are set by children. Several recent fires in central Ohio, including two fatal house fires last month in Columbus, have been set by children as young as 4 years old.

Centerburg to purchase land

On Monday, the Centerburg Board of Education voted to purchase a vacant parcel of land near the bus garage on South Preston Street. According to Superintendent Dorothy Holden, acquiring the property “opens up another [future] possibility” to the 17 acres the board owns near the ball fields, but she said the district has no immediate plans to develop the site. The site was owned by Charles Link.
