MOUNT GILEAD — Knox County Career Center superintendent Ray Richardson, 62, Butler, was injured in a two-car crash Tuesday afternoon that killed a Marengo brother and sister. Killed instantly were Katherine Rhinebolt, 21, and Ryan D. Rhinebolt, 18.
They were passengers in a Volkswagen driven by Rachel Shadel, also of Marengo that, according to the Delaware Post of the Ohio State Patrol, went left of center and collided with Richardson’s Chrysler. Richardson attempted to avoid the collision by swerving off the right side of the road. After the collision, the Volkswagen, which was southbound, left the right side of the road, rolling on its top.
Richardson is listed in fair condition in Grant Medical Center; Shadel is in fair condition in Ohio State University Medical Center.
The patrol said the crash happened on U.S. 36, about a mile southwest of the Knox County line, at 3:56 p.m. The Rhinebolts were not wearing their safety belts, according to the patrol report.
The drivers were flown to Columbus hospitals by MedFlight helicopters. The crash remains under investigation.
