MOUNT VERNON — On Thursday morning, the Knox County Board of Commissioners opened bids from contractors for the sidewalk paving project in the hamlet of Mount Liberty. Commissioner Allen Stockberger was absent from the session.

The sidewalk project in Mount Liberty is to pour a 4-foot-wide walkway for 1,092 feet on the south side of U.S. 36/Ohio 3 through the middle of the hamlet. According to Amy Schocken of Community Development Consultants of Columbus, who was present for the bid opening, the official estimate for the project was $24,341. Two bids were submitted; one was below the estimate and one was higher than the estimate.

T.R. Snyder of Wooster submitted a bid for $19,730, and Modern Builders of Mount Vernon submitted a bid of $26,541.32. Both of the complete bid packets will be turned over to Knox County Engineer Jim Henry, and a decision will be rendered next week.

Also on Thursday morning, the two commissioners present unanimously approved an application from Earl Endsley to apply salt brine for ice control at 25940 Millwood Road, Howard.
