MOUNT VERNON — On Thursday, Judge Otho Eyster in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas sentenced four men and one woman for various felony crimes and violations of community control supervision, according to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher.
Michael C. Goines, 24, Mount Vernon, was convicted of theft of checks and possession of stolen checks. Goines was sentenced to an 11-month prison term. Thatcher said that on Feb. 4, Patrolman Justin Trowbridge, Mount Vernon Police Department, took a report of a stolen checkbook. By tracking where the stolen checks were passed, Trowbridge was able to obtain store surveillance video showing Goines using the stolen checks to purchase merchandise.
In 1996, William M. Prichard Jr., 34, Proctorville, was court-ordered to pay support for his child; since that time he has accumulated an arrearage that exceeds $38,000. Prichard was convicted of failing to provide adequate child support, and sentenced to a three-year term of community control supervision, including a 90-day jail sentence. Prichard’s sentence includes an 11-month prison term that will remain suspended on the condition that he stays current on his child support payments when he is released from jail. The case was investigated by the Knox County Child Support Enforcement Agency.
Justin L. Musgrave, 20, Mount Vernon, was convicted of possessing a stolen credit card. Musgrave was sentenced to a three-year term of community control supervision, including a 60-day jail sentence. Musgrave’s 11-month prison sentence will remain suspended on the condition that he complies with all of the terms of his supervision when he is released.
Thatcher said that on Feb. 18, Patrolman Jason Payne, MVPD, took a report of a credit card stolen from a vehicle. Store surveillance video shows Musgrave using the stolen credit card to purchase items.
Glenn A. Royster, 59, Mount Vernon, was convicted of stealing a credit card and three checks from his landlady’s purse on April 3, and making purchases with the credit card and depositing the checks into his own bank account later that month. Royster was also convicted of forgery.
Thatcher said Detective Craig Feeney, MVPD, obtained surveillance video from a Columbus pharmacy which shows Royster using the credit card. Royster was sentenced to a three-year term of community control supervision, which includes a 38-day jail sentence and mandatory drug and alcohol monitoring. Royster will serve an 11-month prison sentence if he violates any term of his supervision.
On April 4, Stacie L. Behrens, 28, Mount Vernon, was convicted of drug trafficking for selling six 80 milligram Oxycontin tablets to an undercover informant working for the Mount Vernon Police, on March 16, 2007. Behrens was sentenced to a three-year term of community control supervision, and she was advised by the court that any violation of her supervision conditions would result in imposition of a 17-month prison sentence.
On July 3, Behrens violated her supervision terms when she was charged with criminal mischief and criminal trespass in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court. Eyster imposed the 17-month prison sentence for this violation. Capt. George Hartz, Detective Sgt. Jeffrey Jacobs and Detective Cpl. Matt Dailey, MVPD, investigated the drug trafficking case.
