Although renovations are about two weeks behind schedule, pending the granting of an occupancy permit today, the Knox County Career Center will open its doors to students on Wednesday. Some of the labs will be in temporary quarters, ceiling tiles may be missing in spots, lesson plans may need to be adjusted and construction work will be continuing, but school will be in session, according to director Debbie Cisler.

The staff of U.S. Sen. George V. Voinovich, R-Ohio, will hold Connecting with Communities office hours in Knox County on Wednesday, Aug. 27. Knox County Connecting with Communities Session will be from 11 a.m. to noon in the meeting room of the Knox County Commissioners Office, 17 E. High St., Suite 161, in Mount Vernon.
Mount Vernon City Council acknowledged the accomplishments of the Mount Vernon 11- and 12-year-old Little League team’s by passing Resolution 2008-69 at its meeting Monday.

The speed limit on East High Street generated discussion at Monday’s City Council meeting, with council ultimately giving one reading to an ordinance which would result in the area between Park Street and Stevens Street becoming a 25 mph zone. The area in question is a residential area, and has crosswalks used by children attending East Elementary School on East Vine Street.

The county commissioners met briefly with Roger Shooter, director of Job & Family Services, on Monday morning. Shooter presented statistics on unemployment in the county, and also updated the commissioners on the progress of the renovation of the Children’s Advocacy Center.
