Sign restrictions, voting deadline poses problems

In recent years, efforts have been made to make the democratic process more accessible to more people by making it easier to vote. Ohio has enacted a no-fault, absentee voting process as one example of these efforts. In the past, absentee ballots were only available on a limited basis to people who met certain criteria.

County office ready for general election

Tourism partners view bed and breakfast

The Knox Partners in Tourism meeting took place at Chaney Manor, south of Mount Vernon, Wednesday evening. The third event this year, it was organized by the Knox County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau. Guests went on a brief tour of the Chaney Manor, then had a picnic outdoors after the rain stopped.

MVHS rearranges lunch schedule to meet fire code

Mount Vernon High School Principal Kathy Kasler said Wednesday she and her staff had rearranged classes and schedules this week for some students to alleviate overcrowding during a lunch period. The lunch period violated the 375 maximum capacity seating permitted by the Ohio Fire Code for that room.

Health board loses nuisance case

At the Knox County Board of Health meeting Wednesday evening, Health Commissioner Dennis Murray announced the board lost its solid waste nuisance case against Roy Smith of Gilchrist Road in Monroe Township. The case involved a significant number of vehicles on the property.
