FREDERICKTOWN — Four vehicles were involved in a rear-end chain reaction accident Tuesday afternoon, on Ohio 95 near the intersection with Ohio 13, just outside of the Fredericktown village limits.
One of the drivers, Sara Weller of Howard, suffered minor injuries and was transported by the Fredericktown squad to Knox Community Hospital. She was treated and released.
The Fredericktown Police Department, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Fredericktown fire and EMS responded shortly after 2 in the afternoon.
Firefighters and police officers directed traffic around the scene. Ohio 95 east of the intersection is closed due to preparations for the Fredericktown Tomato Show, which added to the traffic back-up.
The fire department was on the scene for about an hour, according to Assistant Chief Larry Schunke.
Sgt. Ray McCruter of the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the accident occurred when two cars were waiting behind a vehicle driven by Bobby Bond of Bellville; Bond was waiting to turn left.
A vehicle driven by Lula Garbar of Mount Gilead struck a vehicle driven by Trevor Purdy of Mount Vernon, setting off a chain reaction. Purdy’s vehicle struck Weller’s vehicle; Weller struck Bond’s vehicle.
Garbar was charged with failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead. The other drivers were not charged.
