Burnt toast sets off alarm

September 4, 2008

MOUNT VERNON — It was only burnt toast.

But the smoke set off a smoke alarm, which, in turn, triggered a fire alarm to a security company. The alarm came into the Mount Vernon Police Department, which dispatched the fire department.

“The alarm was to the home of and elderly woman south on Ohio 13,” said Fire Capt. Dave Mills. “The home was three miles south of our area because the alarm company didn’t call in the correct location.”

Mills added that firefighters cleared smoke out the house with fans, and were on scene only a few minutes. The alarm came in at 10:24 a.m.
