Without power, hungry families flock to fast food and long lines

MOUNT VERNON — With electric power out in many homes around Mount Vernon, people and families apparently are eating out. Heavy traffic at McDonald’s and Wendy’s stores kept them very busy Monday.

Joe Mortellaro, owner of the Mount Vernon McDonalds, said the Coshocton Road Store came back on line about 11:30 a.m. Monday and has been doing a land office business ever since. The Newark Road store was not affected by the power outage, although the Sandusky Street store was down for a time.

“We have plenty of food,” he said with a smile.

On Monday, Wendy’s manager, Brad Nesbit, said, “We had heavy, heavy traffic today.”

He added that the Newark Road store had normal hours but the Coshocton Road store was out of power for a while. It, too, came back on line about 11:30 a.m. Monday.
