Park provides plethora of activies for the horse lover

The legacy of the cowboy can be remembered with famous movies of John Wayne, Clint Eastwood and Jimmy Stewart, as well as many others who brought the life of the horse and rider to the forefront of societal thought. So when you think of the wild open fields, and gentle sloping hills especially in Knox County, the horse and its rider comes to mind. Combine catches fire

Tim Smith was combining soybeans in a field off North Liberty Road on Thursday afternoon when, “I smelled smoke and had to get out of the field and not set it on fire.” He succeeded and stopped the combine on the lawn of the home at 14809 N. Liberty Road. By then the combine was burning strongly.

Storm tests county response system

The havoc wrought by the recent windstorm was a big test for the county’s local disaster response system. Not since the ice storm of 2004 had the entire county seen such hardship. It was a good chance to see the good and bad in a thankfully under-utilized response system.

During a disaster such as the recent hurricane, one of the major cogs in the local disaster response mechanism is the American Red Cross. Helping serve those who are in need, the Red Cross provides food and shelter for those displaced from their homes.
