MOUNT VERNON— The investigation into the accident that took the life of Roger A. Ferenbaugh of Mount Vernon is ongoing, according to Debborah Zubaty, area director for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Ferenbaugh died Sept. 16 at the Rolls-Royce facility while working for a subcontracting company with Corna Kokosing Construction Co. According to Gary Hyman, director of communication for Rolls-Royce, Ferenbaugh was cutting a section of concrete pipe when he was struck by the saw he was operating.
OSHA has been on the scene since it received notice of the accident.
“We have been interviewing employees and management,” said Zubaty, “and we are taking a look at the machine in question as far as to any safeguards on it.”
Zubaty said there is no specific date on which the investigation will be completed. OSHA is allotted six months to complete the investigation.
“We don’t want to get these things done quickly because we want to find out how the accident occurred and what we can do to prevent it, so we don’t have future accidents like that in construction,” she said.
