Short continues testimony

October 3, 2008

MOUNT VERNON — Proceedings involving Mount Vernon Middle School science teacher John Freshwater continued Friday morning with Stephen Short, Mount Vernon schools superintendent continuing his testimony from Thursday.

According to Mount Vernon News Staff Reporter Pam Schehl, Freshwater’s attorney, Kelly Hamilton, questioned Short about the teacher’s collective bargaining agreement in regards to the evaluation and renewal of contracts.

Hamilton also asked Short who he talked with, and who he didn’t, during the school’s investigation into the allegations against Freshwater.

Another avenue of questions Hamilton strolled down included the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He wanted to know the details regarding the regulations of a teacher’s monitoring role as well as Freshwater’s knowledge of these rules, as far as Short was aware.

Schehl added that Mount Vernon School Board of Education attorney David Millstone objected to several of Hamilton’s questions that were asking Short to answer legal questions as well as to speculate what students thought. Millstone’s objections were granted.
