JOHNSTOWN — Northridge school superintendent John Shepard said he is thankful no students were injured in Saturday’s bus crash.
Twenty-two reserve football team members and their coach were on their way back from a game at Danville, when their school bus struck a vehicle stopped for someone making a left turn off of U.S. 62. That vehicle was pushed into the vehicle making the turn, then into oncoming traffic.
Shepard said the bus driver, Carl Frampton, had minor injuries, but the students were all right.
“School buses are designed to withstand that type of impact,” he said, “and this one did.”
An individual at First Student, the school transportation company employed by Northridge, said the driver was treated and released from the emergency room at Licking Memorial Hospital.
First Student also said this is the first bus accident in which Frampton has been involved.
Frampton was cited for assured clear distance ahead.
Velta Jones, the driver of the vehicle struck by the bus, was transported to Knox Community Hospital, where she was treated and released.
