MOUNT VERNON — The candidates for State Representative of the 90th District, Duane Grassbaugh (Democrat) and Margaret Ann Ruhl (Republican) will face off in a debate on Monday, at 7 p.m. at the Knox County Career Center, 306 Martinsburg Road.
The debate is being sponsored by the Mount Vernon News, in cooperation with the Knox County Democratic and Republican parties, and will be moderated by Ron Staats.
Staats is a retired broadcaster with over 45 years of experience, including 30 years at WMVO. He was pleased to be asked to moderate the debate, and said, “I look forward to being involved in a little way with the election process.”
Both candidates are looking forward to the opportunity to debate.
“The debate gives me yet another forum to let the people of the 90th District know who I am and what I stand for,” said Grassbaugh.
“I look forward to having the chance to debate the issues that matter to the voters in this district, especially what can be done to improve Ohio’s economy and job situation,” said Ruhl.
The debate will last approximately 90 minutes, and will focus on areas of concern to the voters of the 90th District. Each candidate will make a short statement to open the debate. They will then be asked a series of questions developed by the organizers of the debate. There will also be closing statements from each candidate.
“Knowing the candidates’ position on the issues is the way constituents make informed choices,” said Lou Petros, chairman of the Knox County Republican Party.
“I am very excited about the prospect of a debate for the state rep candidates,” said Jim Zak, chairman of the Knox County Democratic Party. There is no charge for this event and the public is encouraged to attend.
