Panel: County banks solid financially
As far as commercial banking goes, Knox County is sound, solid and thriving, according to a panel of local financial experts who addressed the public during the Mount Vernon News- sponsored Financial Information Session Tuesday night on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

MV school board discusses proposed field house
The Mount Vernon City Schools Board of Education met for a special meeting on Monday afternoon, and on the agenda was the proposed field house to be built by the athletic boosters. Since the plan was first announced in August 2007, the board of education and the boosters have been working together to see if the project is feasible in the space allotted.

On Tuesday, the contract termination hearing for suspended Mount Vernon Middle School science teacher resumed after a three-week hiatus. The Mount Vernon school board is considering firing Freshwater as a result of allegations of unprofessional conduct.

Marshal’s office reviewing state inspection process
Two members of the Code Enforcement Bureau for the Division of State Fire Marshal visited East Knox Elementary School Tuesday afternoon to follow up on discrepancies between a fire inspection in April, and one 10 days ago.
