Same planet, different worlds. Shirley Fletcher and Nila Leedy are both lifelong residents of Knox County. Both started as Democrats, but over the years, the two have diverged to the point where although they both agree on the importance of the 2008 presidential election, they don’t agree on much else.

Incumbent Knox County Commissioner Allen Stockberger, Republican, who has served 16 years, is facing newcomer and Democratic challenger Serita J. Harris in Tuesday’s election for the seat commencing Jan. 3, 2009.

The two candidates for the Knox County Commissioner seat that commences Jan. 2, 2009, have a combined 60 years’ experience serving the constituents of Knox County in either appointed or elected positions. Both candidates, Teresa Bemiller, Republican, and John Booth, Democrat, are certain their past experience has prepared them to serve the citizens of Knox County.

Mount Vernon High School Principal Kathy Kasler took the stand this morning, following Middle School Principal Bill White’s testimony.
Second student steps forward at hearing
Another student came forward during Wednesday’s session of the contract termination hearing for John Freshwater. The student, now a senior at Mount Vernon High School, testified at the end of the day’s proceedings.

Village hit by rash of robberies
According to the Fredericktown Police Department, there has been an increased number of property crimes in the village over the past couple of weeks.
