Excitement was high for local Republicans as they gathered Tuesday at The Alcove for election night returns. The evening became a bit bittersweet as the evening wore on, however, local Republican candidates — with one notable exception — did very well. But returns on the national level were not so encouraging.

Residents have voices heard

With 71.63 percent turnout, Knox County citizens showed up to let their voices and choices be heard. Not only were they lining up to vote for the next president of the United States, two county commissioner seats, and seats in Columbus and Washington, D.C., they also showed up to vote for the local issues.

1 local school levy passes, 4 others fail

According to the Ohio School Boards Association, there were 237 Ohio school issues on Tuesday’s ballot. Locally, four districts asked voters to approve school tax issues: Fredericktown, Johnstown-Monroe, North Fork and Northridge.

Nineteen indicted by November grand jury

Indictments were returned in 19 cases on Monday by a Knox County grand jury. Arraignments are scheduled for Nov. 24 at 9 a.m. in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas before Judge Otho Eyster.
