MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Water Department will be replacing fire hydrants this week. In order to replace the hydrants, the water supply must be shut off thereby requiring a boil advisory when the water supply is restored. As a precautionary measure, all residents in these areas should bring their water to a rolling boil for a minimum of at least two minutes to ensure safe consumption.
Weather permitting on Thursday, a hydrant will be replaced affecting the area of Old South Main Street south, past Kirk Street to Roosevelt Avenue. Boil advisory cards will be hung in the affected area.
