Killbuck Bank robbed in Mount Hope

November 14, 2008

MOUNT HOPE — Holmes County Sheriff Tim Zimmerly reports that his deputies, along with the FBI office in Canton, are investigating a bank robbery that occurred Thursday at the Killbuck Savings Bank branch in Mount Hope.

Sheriff’s office dispatch received the call from bank employees at 11:03 a.m. and the first responding deputy arrived at 11:08 a.m.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a single individual, believed to be a male with dark complexion and estimated to be 5-foot-2 to 5-foot-3 in height, walked into the bank and up to one of the teller stations and displayed a note saying, “Please give me your money.” He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, mirrored sunglasses, a red bandanna, black gloves, pants and shoes, The teller complied with the instruction on the note and handed the suspect an undetermined amount of bills. The suspect then turned around and walked out of the bank, toward the intersection of Ohio 241 and County Road 77.

The investigation indicates that the suspect’s vehicle, a light tan older model minivan, had been parked near the Country Mart store on County Road 77. No license number or make of vehicle is known, but a witness statement described the rear portion of the van as being more squared off than rounded. Direction of flight is unknown and no other suspects appeared to be involved.

Killbuck Savings Bank is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone with information leading the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this robbery.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at (330) 674-1936 or the Canton FBI Office at (330) 456-6200.
