Sheriff Barber blasts back: ‘I’m enraged’

Knox County Sheriff David Barber delivered a verbal blast from his office Monday evening in an interview with the Mount Vernon News, refuting comments that were aired by the county commissioners in a public meeting on Thursday.

Second early morning fire keeps MVFD busy

An hour and fifteen minutes after fire crews had cleared the scene of a house fire on Newark Road, another house fire a few miles south brought several Mount Vernon firefighters right back into active service.

Concerns raised over fountain

Preserving history is a major concern for the city, but so is safety. Several concerns have been raised over the historic water fountain at Riverside Park that is located next to West High Street. The first concern is that it is on all the time, said Mayor Richard Mavis. The second, is its location next to a busy road.

Focus Studio closes its doors

The closing of Focus Studio last Wednesday came as a surprise to many and a consternation to many more. According to owner Brian Blough, the closing was purely a matter of the weakened economy.
