Children rescued from fire

Two small children were rescued from a house fire early this morning at 301 Coshocton Ave. by Knox County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ryan Burgess, who was first on the scene. Off-duty Mount Vernon Firefighter Nick Cockrell arrived shortly after Burgess and ran to assist.

Commissioners, Barber keep meeting low-key

Despite heated words volleyed in the last week between the Knox County Commissioners and County Sheriff David Barber, Thursday’s face-to-face meeting was polite and subdued. The sparks began flying last Thursday, when the commissioners met with Assistant County Prosecutor Charles McConville to clarify on what grounds they could refuse budget transfers and extensions to the sheriff’s office 2008 budget.

No leads on Centerburg bank robbery

According to the Columbus office of the FBI, the robbery of the Centerburg First-Knox National Bank has not been solved.

Case transferred to municipal court

On Oct. 7, Jeffrey Budd was indicted for insurance fraud and the case went to Common Pleas Court. On Oct. 9, the case was transferred to Mount Vernon Municipal Court.
