Three area children hospitalized with burns

November 24, 2008

BLADENSBURG — Three children remained hospitalized today after suffering burns Sunday at the Staiger residence at 23255 New Guilford Road in Bladensburg.

The two Staiger children were listed in fair condition at Nationwide Children’s Hospital this morning, the name and condition of the third child was not available at press time.

The Bladensburg squad and Utica squad transported the two boys and one girl to Licking Memorial Hospital. They were then transported to Children’s.

According to Malinda St. Clair of the Bladensburg Fire Department, the fire appears to have started when at least one of the children was lighting a toy on fire. When the fire spread, the child said he tried to put the fire out with gasoline.

The fire spread to part of the house; family members had put the fire out by the time firefighters arrived.
