MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Commissioners had a busy day Monday, thanks to the upcoming Thursday holiday.
The commissioners met with Richard Stallard, Rob Clendening and other representatives of the Regional Planning Commission and the Knox Soil & Water Conservation District for a public hearing Monday regarding amendments to the county’s land subdivision regulations. Recapping the basic points of the amendment, which were first discussed with the commissioners last month, RPC chairman Stallard said that current regulations help assure new building projects are up to current EPA standards for controlling storm water runoff. The amendments would give guidelines for on-site management of storm water for existing lots, particularly regarding runoff onto neighboring properties.
Stallard said the RPC reviewed the suggested amendments in its most recent meeting, and had a suggestion to clarify in which situations the use of an existing storm water conveyance system was implied in the previously suggested amendments. The verbiage was added and approved by the RPC. Having no new public comment or input within the required hour time span of the public meeting, the commissioners voted unanimously to approve the updated language, which applies to Appendix F of the Land Subdivision Regulations for Knox County.
The commissioners also met Monday with Tim Geiger of T.L. Knox Investments to negotiate a new lease for the OSU Knox County Extension Office at 1025 Harcourt Road, Mount Vernon. The current lease, at a rate of $11 per square foot ($29,172 per year), is due to expire Dec. 31. Geiger proposed raising the rate to $12 per square foot, or $31,824 per year, stating that other tenants in the same building were paying that rate. The commissioners negotiated a new rate of $11.50 per square foot, or $30,498 per year, payable as $2,541.50 per month. The new lease will begin Jan. 1, 2009, and run until Dec. 31, 2013. Geiger and Commissioner Robert Wise signed as representatives.
The commissioners also voted Monday to appoint Jesse Marlow to the Knox County MRDD Board, replacing Teresa Bemiller, who is leaving the MRDD Board in January to take up her newly elected position on the Board of County Commissioners.
