The Mount Vernon Fire Department responded to a house fire Thursday morning around 11:15. The home is owned by George Ellis, who was not at home at the time of the fire.
During their fourth annual Christmas for Kids toy drive, Mount Vernon firefighters collected and purchased thousands of toys for children in need to enjoy Christmas morning.

When the Mount Vernon Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on High Street late Wednesday afternoon, it brought a lot of equipment and manpower, knowing a fire in the large older building could quickly grow.
