Fatal accident on U.S. 62

December 20, 2008

MOUNT GILEAD — The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Friday at 12:30 p.m. The two-vehicle crash occurred on U.S. 62, within the intersection of Ohio 229 in Harrison Township, Knox County.

The crash involved a 2007 Kia, driven by Trinton L. Manning, 22, of Cincinnati. The second vehicle involved was a 2003 Ford truck, driven by Jack E. Smith, 62, of Howard.

The OSHP investigation shows Manning was traveling westbound on Ohio 229. The vehicle failed to yield the right of way at the posted stop sign and pulled into the path of the vehicle driven by Smith, who was traveling southbound on U.S. 62.

Manning was pronounced dead at the scene by the Knox County Coroner and was transported by Critical Care to the Licking County Morgue. Smith sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District to Knox Community Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
