MOUNT GILEAD — Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Saturday at approximately 4:28 p.m. The crash, which involved a Ford F-350 truck with a snowplow on the front, occurred on Ohio 229 near Blue Road in Liberty Township, Knox County.
The vehicle was driven by William R. Piar, 50, of Mount Vernon. The preliminary investigation revealed that Piar was traveling eastbound on Ohio 229 when he drove off the right side of the roadway, striking a mailbox. Pair lost control of the vehicle, drove off the left side of the roadway, struck an embankment, overturned, and was ejected from the vehicle. Piar was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Knox County coroner, Dr. Jennifer Ogle.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Centerburg EMS and the Central Ohio Joint Fire District. The crash remains under investigation.
