David Boyd of Mount Vernon takes careful steps Monday as he crosses the viaduct on South Main Street. The snow-covered sidewalks on either side of the roadway get buried in snow when city plows clear the street. Mount Vernon Safety-Service Director Dave Glass confirmed it is the city’s responsibility to clear these walks, but said that task is completed after streets are cleared.

At its meeting Monday, Mount Vernon City Council adopted an ordinance approving an annexation agreement between the city and Clinton Township for the 44 acres known as the American National Can property. Council simply approved the agreement to annex; the actual annexation process will follow.
